sumo bar

Recommended Posts

So is a sumo bar better than full axle protection. I ask this as I had to remove my Southdown axle guard on my 110 to do the tracking.

I have always liked the protection it offers but on my Disco 1 I might try something different any thoughts would be most helpful.

Thanks Mark

The Southdown guard offers better protection as the track rod cannot get hooked up on things. However, the guard also tends to get you stuck more often as it lowers the clearance under the full width of the axle.

From our experience in some pretty extreme situations on challenges around the UK the best setup currently available is a sumo bar used with a Gwyn Lewis trackrod protector. We bent 2 sumo bars on the tay last year and they are too hard to straighten in the field to get you home. Since fitting the protector we have had no issues. It is also well up behind the axle so no problems with hanging up on ruts like the Southdown one.
