Jason2
Hi my mate has just lost 3rd gear on his 1994 Discovery (R380 box) Clunk Bang whollop and it was gone Any one got any idea's Thanks in advance
BogMonster
If all the other gears are there it is probably expensive. If they have all gone it might be the grubscrew in the selectors on top of the box these come loose and you lose all gear selection usually end up stuck in whatever gear you were in. Cheers Bogmonster, all the other gears work fine so it looks like it's going to be expensive then
BogMonster
Dave Ashcroft may be along with some more knowledgeable advice so don't dump it just yet Recon exchange box is probably the best option though
DaveSIIA
Possible baulk ring failure, locking out 3rd gear selecton. There was a known problem with early R380's. Unfortunately, it's a pull the box and strip job or buy a re-con exchange. Out of interest, how many miles has it done?

BogMonster
In that case I would just get a replacement gearbox and not bother with trying to fix it. At that mileage most R380s are well past their best IMHO
