Graham Thomson
now that the nice new gauges are all in and working, what readings would be normal.... Water Temp? Oil Pressure (cold and hot)? Oil Temp?
FridgeFreezer
Water temp should hover around the stat temp, 88-95 ish although cooler is no bad thing.
Graham Thomson
Ok, when warm my water temp reads 80 degrees........ anyone know what the oil press and temp should read?
FridgeFreezer
The book says 30-40psi @ 2400rpm, temperature wise I can't imagine it'd want to be massively hotter than the water although oil doesn't boil so 100+deg may not be unreasonable. Graham Thomson
Ok, the PSI bit looks good, it is reading 40psi at approx those revs......... On the motorway this morning, oil temp[ was reading a steady 110 degrees (how appropriate!), on the hard climbs up out of glossop on the a57 it went to about 114 degrees........ 110WestCape
43.5 psi for cold idle 3500 revs (hot) = 21.75 to 43.5 psi Relief valve opens @ 58 psi Low pressure switch opens @ 3.0. to 8.8 psi

ande84
Hi The temprature of your oil and water will be affected by the ambient temprature out side. So say it was 23 C out side temp and your gauge read 110 C for your oil then you would have a rise over ambient of 87 C. This is the temp value you should take note of. As for your water temp i would say that is about right. Your oil temp does seam high tho. Alltho oil does not boil it starts to break down and also becomes thinner the hotter it gets this may cause damage to your engine. Have you changed any of the fan insataltion on your engine. As some fans are used not only to cool the radiator but to pull or push hot / cold airover the engine to cool the engine oil. You can get hold of data sheets for different grades of oil witch tell you what tempratures the will operate at ie max and min temps.
