RICHIE W
Just a new boy to this web so Hi to all am Looking for info regarding the Michelin xzl or as now called 4x4O/R tyres as fitted as standard to defender 130's,any feedback would be appreciated Cheers Richie
Les Henson
These were the first off-road tyres I used. They are not too bad (perhaps a bit narrow) - they lasted quite a long time as well. Les.
andrew9690
We have them on our 130 at work which does a lot of road work and at this time of year alot of off road accross fields loaded and unloaded, they do hold the road quite well as i do tend to drive it too hard and even with 150 hay on and in trailer it can lose grip up hills on tarmac, and get a little bit of wheel spin on the front end. But they seem to handle 1.5tons plus when we over load it
RICHIE W
Thanks for the info ,looking for a set in 235 85 16 to be my all day and play tyres also need to be good on the sand , was told by michelin that these had replaced their specialist XS tyre . Cheers Richie
BogMonster
I thought the XS was still available They are hopeless in anything soft (i.e. boggy peat) and I would not think they would be much good in sand due to the narrow aggressive pattern which is pretty much the opposite of what you want in soft sand! RICHIE W
It seems michelin now does BFG as was also looking at their 4x4 all terrain but when contacted Michelin they quoted BFG all terrains, Otherwise its BFG muds vs Cooper STT Whats the consensus on these two makes ????? BogMonster
Michelin has owned BFG for several years IIRC BFG MT's are a pretty well respected and well proven tyre

Cheers Richie Many years ago I had a set of O/R's - NEVER again, they were rubbish. However, other people seem to get on with them, but their overall diameter is small and ground clearance compromised so if you are in soft mud not long before you have grounded and then it's time for a rope I use BFG MT's 255/85/R16 for tarmac, greenlaning and weekend offroading. Anything more serious and I fit something more aggressive than the MT's. MT's are good in the wet on tarmac, have long service life, good in mud and sand, just so good you need a set

RICHIE W
HI all Finally got round to taking the plunge, followed the advice re BFG M/t's in the standard Landrover size , very very impressed -not much more noise than the General Grabbers and they seem to be better in the wet at the moment .Lots of grip on the road and the icy conditions of North Yorkshire ,cant wait to play in the mud this weekend .Thanks for the recommendation cheers Richie
