Exmoor Beast
How much play should there be in the VC support bearings? I was giving the Freelander the once over at the weekend and having thought I detected a touch of vibration last week (paranoia?)I gave a propshafts a good shake to see if there was any play in the UJs. I was amazed at how much the bearings each side of the VC moved, I had expected them to be rock solid but they moved a hell of a lot. FridgeFreezer
Aren't they rubber-mounted?
Exmoor Beast
Yeah but I was amazed they moved so much, I thought they would be reasonably rigid. Will
thirstybeast
Yeah but I was amazed they moved so much, I thought they would be reasonably rigid. Will Hi The one I drive has perished support bearing rubbers, this causes a knocking noise on over run and sharp turns so I'm having them replaced in the next few days. It sounds like yours may be getting a bit soft too.
BogMonster
The knocking noise if you come off the power sharply is usually the rubber rear diff mountings rather than the VCU bearings. VCU bearings make a loud "rubbing" noise when they are kaput, which increases with speed.
thirstybeast
I think I have more than one fault then!
BogMonster
Could be down to the previous owners being a bit rough
