kevinr
Following a mishap today..thanks to some t**t, I've bent the track rod (the rear one attached to the steering damper..I presume it's a track rod). This makes steering a bag of laughs, but can it be straightened succesfully, if so how..or am I looking at sourcing and buying a replacement? I've jacked a ball join seperator bar between the axel and the bent bar, forcing into shape..or at least a better one. Is this likely to end in failure, or will several hours like this, force the it back?

Milemarker Type S
Even if you can get it straight it will bend again next time... Once they are bent they are scrap and should be replaced. You can always use it as an excuse to go for an uprated one!
FridgeFreezer
Once bent, they will bend again easily. New ones are dirt cheap - even heavy duty ones are cheap enough. I wouldn't p*ss about with steering, it's what stops you from crashing
kevinr
yeah, I figured as much..Paddocks do a nice heavy duty one, but the price is a little too much at the moment..too many damned anniversaries..lol oh well, looks like a replacement one on monday
FridgeFreezer
A temporary solution is to clamp the bugger to a length of angle iron and run a few welds along to keep it straight. It's a cheap way of strengthening a stock bar, or in this case keeping a banana'd one straight for a bit.
Phantom
I’ve repaired / strengthened bent track rod bars but I believe any application of heat or weld to a steering component is technically a MOT fail - buy a new one! Lee
