Rotor
Anyone know why the head gasket on 300tdi`s has three holes for the waterways that go nowhere? I`m changing my gasket as it blown, some clown before has used tap water for cooling and it corroded the head where the three holes in the gasket are, the gasket holes dont seem to serve any obvious purpose or dose the head need water contacting it at these points? Ive attached a photo to show these points. Rgds Rotor
Les Henson
I would imagine that it allows cooling water to get as close to the fire rings as possible in order to dissipate heat. You could do a forum test - block them up and let us know if your engine goes bang If Frida Turner reads this and makes me look like a complete numpty, then someone hacked my account and I didn't just post this Les. BogMonster
To save money in the factory they use the cut-outs to make other small gaskets (allegedly )
