oggie27_3
just a quick one. just spent best part of 2 hours changing the fan belt on my disco. now realise the viscous fan is a normal thread ie right handed. not like the old 300tdi's which is a left hand thread. maybe i will invest in a workshop manual now just got the rest of the service items to do. should be fun. BogMonster
You can get them quite tight with a 3ft bar and some cussing, can't you
JimAttrill
You don't need a manual, all viscous fans undo in the direction of rotation of the fan. That's so they don't fall off. Be careful with the little 6mm bolts that hold on the cap over the centrifugal filter - they are easy to strip. If you do, just get longer bolts and a shorter spanner The spin-on filter only needs to be changed every 32k miles which is nice because it is a pig to get at. Don't be tempted to whack a screwdriver through it as the chances are you will make a hole in the casting which will ruin your whole day (and your wallet). (And don't forget to change the 8 spark plugs. Well, the manual tells you to. It's not the best manual ever written )
nicks90
And don't forget to change the 8 spark plugs. Well, the manual tells you to. It's not the best manual ever written its entirely accurate actually - even for the td5..... cos no matter what you do, by the time you get to the next service - at least 8 of the electrical plugs somewhere on the vehicle will be issuing sparks and need replacing
