Auto box - no gears!

The auto box That I have just fitted seems to have failed after only 40-50 miles.

It was fitted, filled up with oil, tested around the streets then I drove it home down the motorway for around 35 miles back home.

A couple of days later I drove it up & down the village then parked it up for a few more days.

Then yesterday morning I started off on my journey & as I pulled off 1st gear seemed to stick in gear for too long then changed with a jolt, A mile or two later I completely lost all drive with no forward or reverse gears.

Help :(

Thanks Raceface for the link, I've had a look & tried a few things.

I've tried it in park etc & checked that it didn't jump out of gear in the transfer box. I've also checked the oil pressure on the box & there isn't any :o

After a few emails to Dave Ashcroft he says that its the oil pump in the box that's gone.

Is that what happened to yours?

A look through http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk site in the autobox section gives you the correct fitting heights for the TC.

Measure from a straightedge laid across the bellhousing to any of the four lugs on top of the TC. Neead to be careful that it doesn't slide forward when refitting the box.

And as said, if its not on right it splits the pump.

I didn't actually fit the box myself, it was a mate who did it in on his own. I have obviously asked him if he did it right as I know as well as he does that incorrect fitting can cause oil pump failure. He has assured me that he located the torque converter properly when he fitted it & can't understand why this has happened, I even drove it home 35 miles that night with no problems.

So its a bit of a mystery, I've been wondering if maybe the new filter & oil change has caused carp to block the filter but I can't imagine it would have blocked so much to cause complete failure. The box was in my mates rangie for a couple of months while he drove it around & he said it as fine, so you would expect it to be still ok.

Manual does give one symptom as 'intermittent drive & high pitched squealing noise'. Suggests problem is blocked filter or low fluid level.

I've thought about taking out the filter & replacing it again just in case it has got blocked.
