draper40
Hey, i am currently trying to buy a tachometer - rev counter- for my 200tdi and am looking at a sunpro gauge. How can I tell if it will work. How do they work as i presume the ratio of the cranshaft pulley to the alternator pulley is not the same on every engine and therefore the output from the 'w' terminal will be different? Thanks Pete
LandyManLuke
A 'diesel compatiable' rev counter will say it is. It will have an adjustment screw to cater for the differing alternator/crank ratio. A petrol engine rev counter just uses ignition events, so it only needs to know 4,6,8 cylinders etc. A VDO diesel rev counter has switches for large scale adjustment, then a scre (potentiometer) for fine adjustment. Ex Member
Yes, be careful. Most aftermarket tachs won't run from an alternator. All VDO models do, but most others do not.
western
Mine is the rev counter as fitted to the 50th anniversary 90 V8's goes from o to 5000 rpm & connects to the W terminal on the alternator & existing gauge lighting/power feeds. h have you done a search for rev counter, there's lots on here.
