Reef Inmate
I have oil leaking out the rear axle on my 1996 110 TdI 300. The oil smells like gearbox oil so it must be the rear diff oil. Which seal must I change and what does it entail?
western
leaking from which part of the axle ? these should help fix it http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=23658 http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=10286 http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=7903
samtope
Its possible you dont need to change a seal. I had oil leaking at the wheel and at the drain plug, I bought a new breather which is the size of a nut and sits on the top of the axle. Pressure no longer builds up due to heat and the oil is no longer looking for an escape route. Easy job that cost about a pound. Worth a try. Reef Inmate
My cars been standing for about 3 weeks now so I think its the seal
Reef Inmate
I think it would be the seal behind the inboard wheel bearing if there is such a seal
mike4444244
that would be the hub seal and is the usual culprit, providing you have the hub nut spanner its a quick and easy one to replace, see les's guides above Mike
