need4speed
So ive got myself a nice td5 110 galvanised chassis, and a freshly built V8. Which bellhousing will i need to fit the R380 i have in there? Will it be a normal V8 type? Thanks in advance...
Aragorn
You will want to use a bellhousing from a V8 90 equipped with an R380 box, if such a thing even exists? You will have to cut the TD5 mounts off the chassis and weld the V8 mounts on. Also if your R380 is from a TD5 this will not work, as the input shaft is different to the one required to run a V8 clutch. You could use the input shaft and bellhousing from a discovery V8 from >1994, but this would require a rebuild of your R380 to install the input shaft, and if you were to use the disco box complete you'd have the shifter in the wrong place. hayward4x4
have done several of these, easiest way of doing it is using a Defender 300Tdi R380 box with the bell housing from a V8 300 Series Disco, all you have to do is then carefully, very carefully, grind the end of the shaft to fit the V8 spigot bush, all will fit prefectly then. Mo Murphy
If you have threaded bosses in the chassis rail you don't even have to weld V8 mounts on, you can just bolt them on Mo
