JonM
Where is the earth supposed to go? Is it onto the starter or the engine or gearbox? With the engine in the vehicle I just can't see where it is. Thanks.
disco_al
from memory it bolts from the starter to the block behind the turbo. although it's probably better to run a longer one from the starter to the chassis somewhere.
western
no earth at the starter, it's earthed by it's mounting bolts & by 2 earht leads. 1 from the PAS pump/alternator bracket to the chassis part of the left engine mounting 1 from the battery -ve terminal to the transfer box to main gear box joint bolts. My 200tdi has a short earthing lead from one stud on the back of the motor to the engine block. It looks a proper fitment - the lead about 4ins. long - has proper crimped on ends, and the motor stud is longer, there is length for the end cap holding nut, washer, terminal eye, another washer, and nut fully threaded on. Different models of engine/starter?
western
Haven't noticed that one on my 200Tdi, though my workshop manual says earth lead at 'rear' of starter motor in the fitting text, but doesn't show it in the diagram.
