mpb
I have a 1996 Defender 90 that is fitted with a 4 bolt steering box. The steering has gone heavy. I've jacked up both front wheels & the steering is still heavy. So i disconnected the steering drag link & the steering felt notchy & heavy. the power steering res is full of fluid & it did overflow while testing the steering. Moving it from lock to lock. There are no leaks of the pump or the box. Do you think the pump or box are at fault? Can the box be adjusted in situe or do I buy a recon box? Many thanks
disco tony
not an expert with hubs but couldn't it also be railko bushes gone? Check for play, top/bottom wiggle, with wheels raised. (Or I could be talking carp and wait for a grown up )

pedro
Hello, dont know if helps but had the same problem with 110. I have owned it for 3 years and always thought that the steering was just heavy! Until i drove my friends Td5. The fluid in mine was always full. I bought a new steering box and what can i say except obviously the old box never worked properly, it feels like a new car! The box was around 80 quid and took about 3 hrs to fit, it is quite heavy so watch fingers! I believe there is a seal kit, so my old one is now for sale if anybody wants.
