cw01 Posted September 29, 2009 Share Posted September 29, 2009 Hi all, recently ( erm, today actually) got a range rover bottle jack to put in my wolf replica, but when it arrived the bleed screw had come out and some of the oil ( unknown quantity) had leaked out. Now I know the replacement oil is ESSO Invarol EP22, so is this the only alternative?, and how do I know how much to put in?. Also when I tried the jacking lever it wouldn't move, is there a common reason for this?, or have I just bought a duffer?. It was from Evil bay. Thaanks, Chris. ThreeSheds Posted September 30, 2009 Share Posted September 30, 2009 Sorry I have never had to fill or top-up a bottle jack so can't help there, but with regard to the lever not moving then that is wrong - it should be very easy to move when not under load (the handle will go down under it's own weight) and even when lifting one corner it is still no more than an easy one handed job. The bleed screw having come out would ring alarm bells with me too since I think that would indicate that it was loose, in which case why was it loose? I think that your first move should be to contact the seller - maybe I have been lucky but in all similar cases (except one) I have been offered immediate refunds. pinny Posted September 30, 2009 Share Posted September 30, 2009 if its like most bottle jacks there is either a screw or rubber bung near the top remove this bung and with the jack fully retracted fill with hydraullic oil to this level,chris. ejparrott Posted October 1, 2009 Share Posted October 1, 2009 Always thought EP22 was an airline oil, too thin for jacks...i use a Triad 32 Hydraulic oil from work in mine...
