Phil
What's the recommended procedure for removing the front section of headling on my '02 110 CSW? Bearing in mind I'd like to refit it, does anyone have any tips for avoiding damage? Many thanks, Phil.
adam300Tdi90
Does anyone have any tips for avoiding damage? Invest in a proper trim removal tool... or something like that, most damage is caused by using pliers..
wormey
Agree with getting the tool, I have done it without and damaged the lining its self, I found that you have to support the lining to stop it bending and creasing. Take your time. Daz
Phil
Thanks for both responses, for once I have the right tool before starting the job which is an improvement! What's the best sequence to follow to get the thing down cleanly? For example; is it only held in place by the dome-headed retainers I can see, or are there other fixings? I'm trying to avoid damage and getting halfway through only to find I've done the job backwards!! Cheers, Phil.
western
remove the sun visors, interior mirror & bracket, extract the 'fir tree' fasteners & pull headliner from vehicle.
Happyoldgit
before you start I'd get a few spare fir tree fasteners - just in case.
Phil
Thanks, both, for the above. I'll get some spare retainers, are they a standard size? Also, how is the interior light fixed? Cheers, Phil.
Happyoldgit
Pop the lens off the light and you should see the lamp frame retaining screws. I'll dig out a fir tree fastener for sizing next time I go in the garage but someone will probably be able to answer before then.

Tris Cocks
Rather than investing in a tool i borrowed one of mothers forks and cut off one of the middle prongs to use as a makeshift tool - funnily enough she doesnt want it back
Phil
You didn't manage with WD-40 and duct tape then?
Sahl
Ha ha learning by burning, just removed the sun visors, the rear view mirror and when i got to the light in the headliner.. i didn't know how it was put together so when the one screw in the right side was loss, i lost it, and it hit a tool on the seat.. glass all over the place.. Bah ;D But let's see if I'm lucky to be able to find a glass in one of my father's old series landy. Well i can see i have to go get a new tool in the town..
