zim
Evening, I'm putting my crower 50229 cam into my 4.2 lse engine. But i would like to put a new timing chain on at the same time. But not sure which one ??? Standard chain & nylon gear ? or these duplex items http://www.v8tuner.co.uk/product.php?id=699 or http://www.v8tuner.co.uk/product.php?id=97 or any other suggestions ? The engine is just going to be used in my offroader. Thanks Gordon

Hybrid_From_Hell
Both are good - more expensive is slighly better, but don't think either have nylon gears from memory - check If the cheap is steel solid gears and chain and no nylon then it will do handsomely on anything bar the true exotic, and it will be strong and protect from strech which affects timing, and nylon gears which wear and do the same, oh and sometimes shear / loose teeth Nige

zim
thanks for the replies i've literally just got off the phone from ordering a : Rover V8 Cloyes "Street" Duplex Roller Chain Set Cloyes Duplex "Street" Roller Chain Set. Features Steel Gears with 3 position keyway for timing in your cam 4deg advance, retard or standard. Duplex pre-stretched roller chain. The street sets are a alternative to the more expensive true roller sets but at a more attractive price.
zim
Evening, I've been at work for the last 3 weeks. So will be putting my engine together this week. The timing chain has come in, but could someone explain which markings i should use as a starting point ? Here is the pdf of instructions : http://www.cloyes.com/Portals/10/TechTips/HPTips/3%20keyway%20instructions%20%28general%29.pdf There are the options of GM and Chrysler or Ford ? I do realise that my cam needs to adjusted so that it opens and closes at the correct time, but am intersted in how a normal setup would be timed ? Cheers Gordon Edit : thinking about it - i can just put the old gears on and then hold that position whilst put on the new ones.
