Lars G. T. Jorgensen
When did Land Rover start putting the new engine in and does anyone have some pictures that can be used to identify the 2l vs the 2.25?
the real muddy90
As far as I'm aware, s2's were never a 2l ??? the reason they had to make them bigger with the buldge in the side was to acomodate the bigger engine. ? I could be wrong.
secondjeremy
Basically 1958 SWB production had the old 2 litre inlet over exhaust engine - and this amounts to 7500 or so vehicles. 109's were all diesel or 2.25 petrol. 1959's were all 2.25 litres. The model year started after annual holidays in August.
steve b
The bulge in the side was aesthetics ...the 88"/109" wheelbase was to allow for the longer engine - 2 1/4 style 2 litre diesel Steveb
Soren Frimodt
Hi Lars. Easy to tell the difference between the two. The 2 liter is, as mentioned, a inlet over exhaust engine. And the inlet manifold is fitted on the opposite side of the exhaust manifold.
