Arbman Al
I am planning on putting a TD5 engine in my 130 to replace the knackered 300tdi. I need a TD5 gearbox.... I have a dead 300tdi R380 I can rebuild (bearings went big time) and put a td5 bell housing and mainshaft in it. Or I can get a reconditioned td5 gearbox, but will my transferbox fit straight on? The cost of a rebuild kit + bellhousing and main shaft is not far off the price of a recon unit. What would you do? Al

Al most 300 tdi R 380 are suffix J, if yours is then the TD5 pinion will not fit as all TD5's are either a suffix K or L and the pinion bearings are different,
Arbman Al
Does that mean my transfer box won't fit, or I need to change more bits?

Arbman Al
Thanks for replies. I find all these different Landy gearboxes confusing :? What bits do I need to buy/change to get a 300tdi R380 suffix J to fit to a TD5 engine? Thanks...Al

I took his reply to be a black and white statement that the TD5 shaft can't be fitted to a suffix J box - if it was possible he would have said so. I recall from information on the Ashcroft web site that the bearings were increased in size for suffix K & L, so presume from Dave's post above that the bearing OD and ID are increased in the suffix K & L boxes. Then the bore in the suffix J housing would not accept the larger bearing required for the TD5 pinion shaft.
