Were American Disco 2's 4.6?

Were American Disco 2's 4.6?

If so, do they have engine oil coolers? (The P38 4.6 did have oil coolers so I'm wondering if LR fitted the Disco also with oil cooler when fitted with 4.6). Here in South Africa we only got 4.0 Discos.

The UK 3.9s have oil coolers so why wouldn't the 4.6..

the later rrc's take the oil through the radiator. same as the auto fluid - it passes through the radiator and then through the bog brush.

on a p38 both the engine and gearbox have their own big cooler at the front.

Much the same as my disco then engine oil cooler is part of the radiator and the auto box cooler is the finned unit (brush) positioned behind the grill in front of the rad, it's also the same with a 300tdi disco.

But that doesn't answer the question "The UK 3.9s have oil coolers so why wouldn't the 4.6?"

USA D2's were 4.0 from '99 to late 2002. For the 2003 model year, they stopped the 4.0 and replaced it with the 4.6. Oil coolers were only fitted to pre 2003 models - or at least my April 2003 manufactured 4.6 doesn't have an oil cooler - just a couple of big blanking plugs in the front cover.

Thanks Turbodave! That's the kind of info I was hoping to get. It would be nice if we could confirm if oil coolers were indeed fitted to the 4.0 models. (There is no mention of oil coolers in my Rave CD) If this was the case I'ld like to get hold of one to fit to my D2 (now 4.6).
