DrRob
Hi Anybody out there fitted ZU rims to their Classic with 235-70-16s? Will I need to fit wheel arches / spats to be road legal? Any piccies of such a set up would be excellent - preferably a side shot and a front to back shot to see how much they protude - if any... Cheers Rob
Snagger
Nooooooo!!!! Don't do it!!! Seriously, while Defenders can look better if accessorised, and at a pinch Discoverys can look good with a few discrete accessories, less is more on a Range Rover. The original thee-spoke alloys, LSE/CSK alloys and TWRs all look good, but anything else (except Rostyles on early two-door models) just looks so wrong! bishbosh
Whilst I agree whole heartedly with Snagger, to answer your question , it depends on the back spacing of the rims. You can run steel modulars without the need for spats so perhaps you could compare back spacing with those?

You can run steel modulars without the need for spats so perhaps you could compare back spacing with those? Most modulars/8spokes add 25mm track per side compared to LR alloys, but some (like my 109's) add 40mm, so be careful. The way you can tell at a glance is to look at where the centre section meets the rim, comparing the width of the joint to the edge of the tyre well to the space between the edge of the tyre well and the tyre bead seat - if they're the same, you have the 40mm offsets, if the centre plate joint is close to the well side, then you have the 25mm offset.I don't know what the ZU offset change is, but I suspect it's closer to 40mm.
