sj-pickup
I've got a spare straight six you could put in it I can see why you'd want it as a daily drive though, I've onlky driven my S3FC a little bit but would love to go to the shops in it and tootle around town Something about the high driving position I think...They are supposed to be remarkebly good off-road as well but I'll never be trying that. Power steering would have to be a priority though. I'd be interested to know how you get on with a 300tdi auto. I guess anything is possible. i think it is just a pity to restore it and than just hide it in a garage, and any way when a person gets older it becomes mor difficult getting in to a forwarcontrol.Even with the midle diff unlocked i ifnd the defender more capable off road than the FC in 4wd. i am going to be deciding the next couple of days what i want to do with it. thanks for your offer for the straight six, but i am more in to diesels. (because i do about 40 000 km a year)
M&S
I agree. Mines getting a "tidy up and running repairs" rather than a fulle museum piece restoration. They are working vehicles and I want to keep it that way. If I was keeping it I would seriously be looking at a 200tdi conversion for it for sure, with an auto. I'll follow this thread with interest
Maarten88
I've got a Nissan SD33 straight six diesel in my IIB, together with the five speed gearbox. Fits nicely with a small cut in the upper rails, ie the one on top of the chassis itself. It needed two custom made propshafts, which set me back €100 a piece. It now cruises at 90 km/h all day. It is the engine out of an 1980's Nissan Patrol. Hth Maarten
Gazzar
The sd33 is lovely engine, smooth straight 6. Bit thirsty, but oodles of power. G.
