JimAttrill
I struggled with some stop/tail LED lights. Until I discovered that they were wired up backwards on my Defender. ie. the positive should be the centre electrode and the negative should be the outside bayonet electrode. This doesn't matter with normal incandescent bulbs but LED's (as they are diodes) only work in one direction. I then found that all the Defenders I checked had rear lights wired up backwards LR strikes again!
Retroanaconda
If the standard units were wired backwards it would just short the supply to the bodywork, since the bulb ground is earthed to the body via one of the fixing screws (as well as through an earth wire). western
but not on the later light units, where the lens & backplate are one part, [as one 300Tdi & later vehicles] the wiring is done at the bulb holder & onlt 2 screws secure the lens unit to the body. JimAttrill
I was quite keen to fit these bulbs but eventually just got my money back. Just a bit annoying to waste so much time on it. You can see their point - with ordinary bulbs the wiring doesn't matter as long as it gives a circuit. So who cares about polarity?
