Jimmy Two-Jacks Posted October 18, 2011 Share Posted October 18, 2011 Hi All, Just thinking of getting an electronic immobiliser fitted to my old 90 but having searched the forum and other forums it seems that it may be worthwile considering hidden fuel pump switches and the like rather than a hi tech immobiliser on a low- tech 200tdi . sharpy Posted October 18, 2011 Share Posted October 18, 2011 Hiya, A fuel cut off switch saved my mates truck, thieves came one night, broke in and discovered he had a battery isolator. They came back a couple of nights later and brought their own key only to be foiled by a hidden switch that kills the fuel pump. There are lots of places to hide a switch just use your imagination, obviously not many will tell you where to put one as it leaves them open to theft from anyone dodgy reading the forums. CwazyWabbit Posted October 18, 2011 Share Posted October 18, 2011 The use of an alarm with an imobiliser built in whilst more expensive than a switch does have the added benefit of making noise as well. If you want you can have a hidden switch as well. FridgeFreezer Posted October 18, 2011 Share Posted October 18, 2011 Ask the insurance company what difference it makes and if they recommend anything particular - usually they only really give any discount for professionally-fitted Thatcham Approved immobilisers or possibly trackers. Most gear like that, especially the cheaper end & things like steering wheel locks etc. is more hassle for you than any thieves and just something else to go wrong. Disco-Ron Posted October 19, 2011 Share Posted October 19, 2011 A hidden switch is all well and good, but i'd have thought that anyone finding a motor that will crank, but not start would straight away grab apiece of wire and just put a live to the solenoid. . .
