jagwit
Hi Does anyone know if its possible to lower the torque convertor lock-up speed? If so, how? Mine locks at about 80km/h but I would like to lower that to around 60km/h.
Bowie69
You'd find it struggling to pull at those engine revs TBH, I would leave it as is it, and IIRC it's a box modification to change anyways. 53mph is the book speed, so 80kmh isn;t far out at all, allowing for speedo innaccuracies. mickeyw
Depending on your intended use of said vehicle, and your tyre size, changing the transfer gear ratio may be an option. If you just use it on the road with standard tyres, just stick with it how it is.
jagwit
I was hoping it would be a relatively simple change like replacing a spring or two here and there. The car is 100% standard down to tyres and will be used mainly in town with the occasional open road trip. Even in town there is enough torque to lock the convertor in 4th IMHO. Range Rover Blues
It won't be good for the 'box or the engine. My LSE is a 5.0l and has plenty of torque but i still wouldn't want it locking up as low as 60KPH, 75 perhaps as many roads round here are a 50mph limit (80Kph) and it's not quite fast enough for the TC to lock up. AFAIK it's a serious rebuild of the gearbox to acheiev this, you would need all the gearshift points moving down to acomodate it for a start. Ally V8
I asked Ashcrofts about this as my irritation is the 50 limits,I wanted to get the lockup in at 48mph on my D1 tdi which would happily pull it.Their answer was that it would require a spring to be shortened - but the amount would be trial and error and its well inside the box.Shame really, that its not worth doing. jagwit
Now if we just find out WHICH spring and HOW DEEP its into the box...
Range Rover Blues
I never thought to ask whilst they had mine apart, but I do know it's trial and error because the 'box works on pressure settings. I'll just keep telling myself it would knock the bottom end out of my engine.
