88 inch of pure pleasure
Right iv got a defender challenge truck it's running a 300tdi mated to a lt77 box now the box is starting to wear in the mainshaft (the bangs getting louder) is it possible to run a weld round the mainshaft Nto the drive gear in the tranny??? I no it's not ideal etc but I'm skint ATM n desperation is all I have lol
discomikey
if you mean transfer box input shaft and gear, then yes, well.. i was told to do this to my disco as it was a field car and i couldnt afford a new box, turned out it was the clutch that went bang, with all the symptoms of input shaft bang. i suppose if your doing it to eradicate play it should be fine but make sure that the gear is hard up against the spline in a way that if you put your foot down its already touching. so the weld is sharing the stress with the splines. should never break then. but as you said it isnt really ideal. vulcan bomber
You'll never seperate the gearbox and transfer box if you do weld them together.

RedLineMike
you can, but just because you can doesnt mean its a good idea, personally id drive it for a bit more whilst loking out for another box, that way you can still change it & have the current box rebuilt, if you weld it it the box & transfer box become scrap if anything else goes like a syncro etc
dirtydiesel
I've done it before, you'll need a decent sized welded to get good penetration. I managed to get one back to bits again afterwards when ashcroft wanted a box back for exchange i just 9 inched the tbox to bits untill i could cut the back off the gear
