ejparrott
Hi all, Got a 19J fitted into a friends Series II, which doesn't have servo assissted brakes. Whats the most sensible option for the vacuum pump, seeing as we've no use for 'on-board vacuum'! Shall I pull it and put a blanking plate over the hole, or pop a short length if vacuum hose on the outlet/input with a blank in that? Cheers
Briarston
Take the vanes out so no vacuum is produced, and plug the outlet hole, perhaps?
western
see page 154 just remove the vanes as suggested above & blank off the outlet. taking the centre part out might allow the oil pump drive [use the upper end to drive the vacuum pump] to much space to become disengaged with the camshaft. Les Henson
Fit the later S3 brake pedal/servo arrangement and have awesome brakes Les.
ejparrott
Thanks Ralph, I'll have a look at doing that. If it were mine Les then for sure I'd be converting to dual line and a servo before she went back on the road, but she's not, so it's down to the owner and his lack of funds for such an upgrade! The inside, for anyone whos not seen it...the four vanes just tipped sideways with a prod from a (clean) screwdrive, then lifted out by hand
ejparrott
Belt and braces job, I've turned a stainless bung, and dropped a short length of silicone vacuum pipe over the connection, just to keep it clean...
