teabag
For a two button fob press the 'lock' button four times and nothing for the single button fob so u may have an iffy fob battery.
DiscoStu
Sorry for the partial hijack.... There is a restart sequence? I was about to change the battery in my 1996 two button fob - its getting a bit hit and miss and I've not changed it in the three years I've had it. I'll have to try to remember which side lock is, I never seem to get it right first time! Is there anything else I need to be aware of, and incidentally, what battery does the fob take? Stu. sierrafery
As long as the fob works one way or another it means it didnt lose syncronization... when sync. is lost the fob will not work at all ... if the fob must be close to the receiver IMO it has not enough power

teabag
This info is for programming a single button fob, as I have a two button fob i've never had to use it so I don't know if it works. 1. Ensure ignition is OFF, doors unlocked, bonnet switch closed. 2. Ensure procedure from 3 to 9 is completed within 8 seconds. 3. Switch Ignition ON 4. Switch Ignition OFF 5. Lock Doors and Unlock Doors 6. Release Bonnet Switch 7. Switch Ignition ON 8. Switch Ignition OFF 9. If alarm is set, horn will sound and LED with light. Now programming of plips can be completed. 10. Press and hold down button on plip until LED flashes. 11. Repeat for additional plips. 12. The dash LED will extinguish if both plips have been programmed successfully

A 98 Disco should have a 2 button fob.
sierrafery
u need a tester to program a two button fob ... dont mix "programming" with "syncronizing"...just to sync. a two button fob if it lost power is enough to lock 4 times
donnyc
I recently bought a 200TDI previous owner said the key fob only works sometimes..When I tried it it seemed like the fob batteries were dead ..I replaced them and the fob worked OK for a week..Then the fob batteries went flat..I replaced them again with batteries sourced from a motor factors but It still doesnt work..Ive gone through the procedure and alls fine up till the horn bleeps and the dash light comes on ..I then hold the button down but nothing changes the light in the dash stays on..Plus if I manually lock drivers door the central locking doesnt work either..If I switch ignition on the light goes out on dash C/locking then works fine..Pulling my hair out now ..Anyone any ideas ? Thanks in advance
