muddy4x4xfar Posted June 5, 2012 Share Posted June 5, 2012 im gettin a discovery 200tdi back on the road, ill be running a few more accessories to the vehicle i.e cb, radio +amp system, spot lights heated seats, fog lamps etc. should i be upgrade the alternator ? the battery is a standard discovery battery , will this be ok also? if i am to upgrade these what would you guys recommend i do? many thanks all Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

FridgeFreezer Posted June 6, 2012 Share Posted June 6, 2012 Very few of those items are gpoing to be going flat out all at once all the time. You can use maths to calculate the current draw and decide if your alternator is up to it. Worth remembering that the 100A rating is absolute max, and probably double what the thing will manage at tickover. Battery capacity only really matters if you want to use things with the engine off, again you can calculate it easily enough. If you do need to use things with the engine off for long periods I reckon it's nicer to have a 2nd "leisure" battery split-charged as they are more suited to that sort of life, and you won't flatten your starting/running battery by accident.
