New door locks

Hi

I am trying to get my landrover in better shape and have started making a list of items to fix and parts to purchase . The door locks open with any key that fits the in the lock.

My last 90 was the same but it's value was less and it was only used for pay and play days.

I want to keep this one so looking at trackers but I want to be able to lock the doors .

It's a 2000 w plate td5 (300tdi type dash)

Question 1

Do any of them lock and work with only the correct key or are they all like it?

Question 2

A lock barrel set is under £15 but will have britpart on the bag, is the landrover OEM part any better

Other options

Some how blank off the 2 front doors and fit central locking then fit something externally to the rear door and keep a standard barrel on the back so I have a way of getting in should the Central locking pack up.

Go for the other options choice A number of people here have done it. However be warned there are a number of other ways in to the Defender.

The standard barrels are wafer locks, these are pretty much the cheapest type of lock barrel available and as such offer little security, they are the same type of barrel you would use in a filing cabinet.

I know a defender is never going to be hard to get into, but you would need to smash or remove some glass.

I just want to be able to stop anyone walking past from getting in with such little effort.

I have done what you mention, removed the lock barrels (and fitted the blanks out of a pair of 110 SW 2nd row doors - you could swap the whole handle if you were that way inclined) and I now rely on the central locking to let me in and out. Works very well and looks standard. Doesn't solve the other security issues though, as you mention. But I figured every little helps

Have retained the lock barrel on the rear door as a back-up entry method for if the battery dies or the CDL goes skyward somehow. Just resigned myself to replacing that barrel fairly often, as the reason they get so rubbish is that they fill with muck/dirt and then the wafers just jam in the open position. At least they're cheap enough.

Must get around to modifying my rear lock for the CDL at some point as well...been meaning to do that for 4 years now!
