Jimmy Two-Jacks
I fitted my new Allisport intercooler today on my 200tdi and tweaked the pump a little but less than the amount comonly suggested, no smoke to speak of just the usual puff of smoke at start up ...bloody hell what a difference The question is have I shortened the life of my engine by doing this modification on the basis of "the light that burns so bright only burns half as long" and all that stuff? Next phase the straight through exhaust . Cheers J2J
Team Idris
Yes, more crank load and more work for the head gasket, but honestly, not by much. You're not going double on power or owt daft like that. And they stand a fair bit anyway. CAT 3406 is 425 hp on mechanical govenor but will do 500 on electronic. Same basic dodad inside. In my book "Diesel Technology" it says how two identical type engines might be sold as 320 and 350 HP. The 350 is dearer to cover the extra warranty expected as the engine works harder. vulcan bomber
The Tdi's are very under tuned as it is so they run ok on carp fuel... you can turn the pumps up quite a bit without bigger intercoolers with no issues on relaibility.
