what does this signify? engine painted silver, land rover sticker on r

i had a looksee under the rubber mat thang on top of the engine and noticed a small but longish sticker on the rocker cover. it has the land rover logo on the left and then some print that has rubbed off to the right of that. it's made of that thick plasticky material that most of the factory stickers (like the 'dont drain cooling system' one on the front panel) are made of.

then i noticed that the engine has been sprayed in a very aluminium coloured silver before the sticker was applied.

so, i guess what i'm getting at is does this suggest the engine has had a rebuild at some point? it wouldn;t surprise me, as it seems a good lump for 227,000 old. or is this how the later engines left the factory (it's a 98)?

any ideas?

i'll get a picture of the sticker if my description is just jibberish!

I reckon its a recon engine as most of the chassis had a engine number to correspond with it when built in factory but when reconditioned engines were fitted they were not stamped with an engine number which is why some vehicles have no number stamped on engine only part numbers
