Wellsy
Last week noticed strange handling and knocking from rear end of my 200tdi Isolated it to a shock problem. I removed the OME shock and found that the rod / piston had broken at the top near to the mount. Why? Can they be rebuilt? Wellsy
porsche
can happen if they are tightened down too much against the bush , 3 threads is enough
Boydie
I thnk 3 threads is a little light on but yes, if you over tighten the cone rubbers in the top shock eyelet you are asking for a broken shock, its one reason why I never advise anyone to go to heavy duty neoprene rubbers for touring, they reduce the degree of auxullary movement - desirable in some forms of competition - but to the detriment of the life of the shock. On my rally car for example I ran Koni's with rose jointed ends - bloody expensive and neded a total overhaul and re-valve every 1000 kilometers. dirtydiesel
Just fully submerge the shock in a bucket of water and weld the pin back on.
