bluespanner
Will 5w30 fully synthetic oil be ok in a low mileage 200tdi? Thanks all
Maverik
I wouldn't use anything below 10w40 on a 200 or 300tdi. IMHO. Mav
Aragorn
5w40 would be fine IMO, but a 30 weight is probably too thin.
Tanuki
Will 5w30 fully synthetic oil be ok in a low mileage 200tdi?Thanks all What is your ambient temperature range? Must admit unless you're in the Arctic I'd be going for a 10W40. Also, what's been in there before? Switching to a high-detergency oil in an engine that's not had such an oil in it previously can be a recipe for oil-burning and gasket/oilseal leaks. The other consideration is the oil-spec itself: is it rated for turbodiesels? I wouldn't use anything that is not API CH-4 rated.
bluespanner
I'm in the midlands so ambient is I dunno, -10 to 25 degrees Celsius. The oil I have is some GM stuff that Arnold Clark are knocking out for £2 a litre (£40 for four 5 litre cans) when you buy a service kit. It says 5w30 dexos2 api sm/cf I'll see what else I can get in 10w40 I think.
Aragorn
GM also do a own brand 10w40 thats usually very cheap.
