should be 2 VIN on every 90/110 & 3 locations on later models [iIRC 300tdi onwards]

the chassis one 17 digits stamped into right front side behind bumper & forard of the axle & a stamped ident plate rivetted to the brake srvo/pedal mounting.

both must agree with the reg document V5.

DVLA used a casting number as the replacement VIN and real one not completely legible!.

Marc.

Honestly, you really need to talk to someone state side who's got the experience in importing LR's, from what you say the 'VIN' won't even be recognised by the CBP system as a legit LR one.... even for a S1. Sorry, can't be of any more help.... they might let it go as a 'historic/classic', with it being a S1..... maybe ?

Personally I'd give Doug from Dividing Creek Imports a call, http://www.dividingcreekimports.com/index.html he's got lots of experience & is well respected in the US LR world.

One of our American club members here in Dubai has just found out exactly how hard it is to import Land Rovers into the USA.

His intention was to import his entire collection of 'Modified' cars into the USA but now that the rules have changed he's being forced to sell them all (bar one) because they've all been modified to some extent.
The entire build of the car must match the VIN tag exactly....so if the car was built with a 3.5V8 at Rover... that's what it needs to enter the States.
Wheels, tires, glass, chassis...you name it...it's got to be per the factory build sheet. No galved chassis allowed period...even if it's a legit one.

His wife has a beautiful Japanese Spec NAS 90....it's been refused because it's not a USA Spec one! The 6x6 Sandringham Fire tender he bought...again it's been refused because the engine is a 300TDi and not the 3.5 V8 that it left the factory with.
Sandringham and Holtspur have long gone out of business so he's struggling to get the original build sheet since Land Rover only sold the 110 chassis to Holtspur and they modified it to length etc....
