reb78
I've got uneven wear on the outside edge of my front passenger tyre. What could be causing this? Wouldn't tracking affect both sides? The drivers side is wearing fine and evenly.
Spearos
I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong but tracking could perhaps result in just one tyre wearing unevenly - in the 'straight ahead' position it is possible that one wheel is at the desired toe in / toe whilst the other is 'scrubbing' where it is 'out'. Failing that perhaps a worn suspension componant (bush?) on that particular side could be causing the uneven wear?
vulcan bomber
Most likely the swivel bearing.

I cant see the tracking being out, if so you'd surely end up not going in a straight line.

B reg 90
It was my swivel bearings when I had this problem.
reb78
Thanks chaps. I'll check the swivels out. With yours, were they worn thus needed replacing or just need some shims removing? I havent been able to jack it up yet, but i couldnt feel a lot of play when rocking the wheel. With the tracking, it drives fine. Straight ahead is set ok and hands off the wheel, it doesnt veer to one side or the other. I will double check this though.
reb78
Well, jacked it up tonight and checked the swivel on the passenger side. No play there at all. I did adjust this side when I replaced the whole of the driver side last year, so it is possible that the wear was there before and that it looks more apparent now as the small raised bits on the edge of the tyre are down to the main tread now. I'll double check the bushes and the tracking at the weekend just to be sure. I'll also rotate the tyres.
