Dave09
I've been thinking about getting these http://www.4x4tyres.co.uk/defender-15inch-to-18inch/16inch-7inch-challenger-black-defender-steel-wheel-p-1571.html I've got 16" x 8" modulars and was wandering if a narrower rim 16" x 7" would affect the handling any? ( don't want it to get any worse) And I'm running 285/75r16 BFG Muds. Thanks dave
Chicken Drumstick
Just curious on why you think it may affect the handling? Personally I don't see it being a problem.
Daan
at that width of tyre, I would stay with an 8" rim, as you will experience more wandering while cornering with a 7" rim. Daan
Diff
Manufacturers recommended rim width for your tyres is 7.5 to 9 inches, so if I were you I would stick to the 8 inch wide rims: http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/tire-selector/category/off-road-tires/mud-terrain-t-a-km2/tire-details#techspecs Fitting tyres on a rim that is too narrow, can result in the profile of the tyre tread changing, such that the centre of the tread may wear faster. Handling may be affected because the tyre can deflect sideways more during cornering because the tyre is now supported on a narrower 'base'. I must say that I find it very odd that a tyre and wheel supplier is prepared to sell a wheel and tyre package for use on the road that doesn't meet the tyre manufacturers recommendations.
