mmgemini
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/22/ibor.jpg/'> The black thing with Bosch on it. It's on the FIP on the engine I got yesterday. The engine came from an L reg Range Rover 300Tdi a genuine factory model. Cable throttle. Manual gearbox. I can't see a fuel cut off solenoid.... must look at my engine Yep it was running. So can this thing be removed and thrown away ? You know I don't like electronic things on engines The engine will have the head pulled...so the pump and front cover could be changed at the same time. Oh yes. The front cover has a "breast" on it I guess that's for aircon.

Eightpot
The black thing? It's a throttle position sensor isn't it - I normally declutter the engine and take them off.
dave88sw
it is a throttle position sensor that is only there for the egr system, if you have removed the egr, you can remove the tps.
