Fog lights on MOD 110

Hi,

Got an MOT coming up and today I did a check over my 1995 FFR 110 - all good - then I thought I would check the lights.

I bought it from the guy who got it straight from MOD he had a reversing light put on the rear n/s and a fog light on the O/S.

I cannot see any switch for the Foglight anywhere in the cab. Its ex MOD so nothing on the steering column as I believe there is on the civi versions.

I am perplexed! Why install it and not have it working - had a new MOT on it when I got it from him as he did all the work and then decided it was a bit too 'rough' as a daily ;)

Never had to use it over the last year - anyone have any ideas - would be appreciated - not great with electrics - mech OK.

Also I noticed the two big red lights either side of the tail don't do anything - the high ones are tail lights and break lights - strange as I thought they would be used!

Thanks in advance.

Taffia.

if fitted the rear fog must work, regardless of age & if there was a rear fog light or not when new.

maybe the PO fitted it after the last MOT & never got around to wiring it in.

is this a XD/Wolf 110 or a earlier model ?

Hi Western,

Its an early 110 1995

I can't see how it got through the last mot - the fog light is there but no switch - osmosis?

:)

should be on the RHS column yellow/red on on side of two pin connector. If you are missing the switch as well, do what i did and fit new one from a range rover classic, They are almost identical for wiring/plug except slight bend/angle on shaft and flat end on switch instead of square end.

Difference is price... almost double for defender version...although correct one on the bay is £20ish.

this is the rocker switch http://www.lrseries.com/shop/product/listing/13573/YUF101640-ROCKER-SWITCH-REAR-FOG.html?search=switch%20rear%20fog%20&page=2

& this is the older sort stalk variant http://www.lrseries.com/shop/product/listing/9798/PRC3432-SWITCH-REAR-FOG-LAMP.html?search=switch%20rear%20fog%20&page=1

either would work.

wire from switch to rear fog light is red/yellow trace, there should be a ignition controlled live feed via main light switch to power the rear fogs & the lights are earthed at the rear end.

the rear fog should only switch on when side/tail & dip beam headlights are on.

Hi,

And thanks - on other sites there are two switch models - I noticed but this one seems to supersede all the others.

Have ordered switch and lets hope its 'plug and play'......who am I kidding ;)

Will let you know.

Thanks

Hi

Got switch today found the connector in the gap red/yellow trace. Two wires going into the back of the socket both red/yellow on two pins but one wire has broken off.

Is it just a case of reattaching the broken wire to second pin. Looks like its the case. Connector fits switch perfectly.

Just wondering if there is a wiring diagram with colours anywhere?

First electrical job but I am hoping to do it myself as that was my commitment when purchasing my first defender.

Thanks

reattach broken wire & if everything else in the circuit is OK the rear fog light should work.

this one should help

http://www.vq5x79.f2s.com/greenradio/Landy/90_&_110_FFR_wiring.jpg

rear fog lights are item 21/22 lower left of diagram. wire from switch to lights is RY = red/yellow trace.

Thanks again Western - I shall be venturing out to vehicle first thing - diagram in one hand, coffee in the other, ipad in back pocket ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

To finish the story.......................

Found the coloured wires but they had been cut deep in the loom.

So as its military out came the central light switch and I jumped a live off the switch when driving lights came on - there was already a relay there wired to the new rear fog - bizarre - so perfect - ran two wires to new switch area - order switch as above - and magic - fog light working off a switch when driving and main beams on only!

One of the best tools I found for this work or tracing any wire - is http://www.maplin.co.uk/cable-tracker-with-tone-generator-46536

There are cheaper ones around but boy does it save your time ;)

Thanks to everyone for input and if anyone needs more information let me know!

Taffia - snows coming!
