Defender V8 Earth Points

Recommended Posts

After finding out from a friend today where to earth my lambda sensor, it occured to me that i dont have ANY of the earth points connected on my defender. This is due to a loooooong-running ground up rebuild... So as title suggests, if someone could let me know where all the major earth points should be, id be very grateful.

Will the fact that i have a galv chassis affect anything chassis-wise?

There is a braided earth strap from gearbox to chassis on my 90, and then a 35mm2 cable from tubular outrigger to battery. There may be a second earth strap from engine to chassis but I can't remember without looking at it.

If I were starting from scratch, as you are, I would run 50mm2 from batt negative to starter motor bolt or convenient bell housing bolt, then a 35mn2 cable from batt negative to chassis bolt, and a 16mm2 or 20mm2 cable to a fixing on the bulkhead as some loom earths fix to the bulkhead.

Also I would run 4mm2 cable from batt negative to the earth studs on both wings so that the headlights have a decent earth path

Fully agree with Lewis . after buying my 90 I had shed loads of leccy faults , dim lights , even dimmer when you asked the heater blower to have a go at its job to demist the screen , but after fitting a recon gearbox I ran earth straps back to the bell housing , the chassis rail and on into the engine compartment up to the bulkhead , Christ what a difference , the more the merrier
