Jase
Hi All,Is the standard steel bumper on a Discovery 1 strong enough to bolt eyes onto in order to attach an A Frame for road towing? Thanks,Jase
BogMonster
It's pretty flimsy - you might get away with it but I wouldn't really think it was the best idea.
Blanco
Better to use the bumper mounts as the fixing for some brackets, you might modify an old A-bar or something..... I take it this is just for recovery? or do you plan to do the lights and brakes as well?
qwakers
short answer is no, not a chance. you can bend a standard bumper by giving it a good kick.
Nigelw
Simple answer, not on your life for on road towing, better to get a HD front bumper with either welded on eyes or swivel recovery points that could be modified. At your own risk if you do but it could cost you more than just the car if it fails whilst in motion. Looked over a set up on a Smart car that was "A" framed behind a mates camper, the mounts on that were 5X thicker than the Disco bumper and that is a car that weighs around 1/3 of a Disco.
