Oil in the carb is the damper thingummy, errr, that's as much as I know about them horrible clockwork things... yuck All rover V8s can run unleaded, back timing off a tad if it pinks. engine oil goes in them to a set level this damps the piston inside the carn unit, both on strombergs and SUs. Prob worth you getting a ahynes manual and having a read for basic servicing and ownership knowledge, etc, or you can always ask here I guess !!
