Frax
Went for a 40 mile run today and at the end I had this Saying that on the way home at one point the gauge did go up to about the 10 30 point but it was only for about 1 min then went back to where it was. Anyway going to change it.
western
reckon you have a airlock in the heater matrix.
Frax
Will need to look at that Western, would a good flush through the heater with a garden hose clear that out. I will have to drop the coolant level to change the stat anyway.
western
Yes purging the heater with a hose will make sure it's full of water,
Frax
Well the stat turned up at long last - only 5 days late Just fitted it and was going to test my old one but there was no point, the only desaster I had was that stupid plastic plug. The top of it snapped off just above the thread but I was able to remove the threaded part. Luck for me I had a steel plug that fitted, if anyone has the part number for the plastic plug let me know as the steel one will react. Now back to the stat - this is what I found. About 1/4 of the seal had gone - hope you can see it in the picture.

bodumatau
What's the job of the little one way valve thingy in the thermostat ? Is it to bleed air out of the system? That why it needs to be at the top?
western
jiggle pin to allow some coolant to leak past & any trapped air to escape to header tank. My thermostat has a jiggle pin ??Yes. Many thermostats have a “jiggle pin” that allows trapped air in the cooling system to pass through the thermostat and be released from the system. Some Stant thermostat do not use have a jiggle pin. These thermostats will have a "bleed notch” or other method of removing air from the system. from http://ww2.stant.com/Consumer-Products/FAQs/#anchor15
