Roverdrive
Good evening, I am thinking of looking at a td5, and have heard both good and bad things said about them. What are the main items to look for? I have heard about the oil pump drive bolt, and leaking fuel cooler. Thanks
g-mack
oil running along ecu cable, warping manifolds.
Anderzander
I guess the big one is wether the head is cracked - so if it's using water. Almost everything else is bolting new parts on - that ones a bit more expensive. Dare I say for the oil pump bolt - if it would have fell out it would have by now..... Great engines in my opinion. Tanuki
Injector seals: if they start to pass gas they can ruin the fuel-pump (300 quid plus labour to fix) because the products-of-combustion blow back into the fuel-tank and form a black sludge that blocks the pump's pickup-strainer. The pump then burns its little heart out trying to suck Diesel through the sludge. You need to drop the tank to clean out the sludge properly with a steam-cleaner. New seals are cheap and easy to fit; new fuel-pumps aren't. Any sign of audible whining/screaming, or gurgling/swishing sounds from the pump is a bad sign.
