110 (short nose axle) on a 90?

Recommended Posts

Hi

Recently acquired an arb air locker (rd 138) for a shortnose differential (p38 type) found in range rover p38, discovery 2 and later 110 from 2002 to present.

Is it possible to fit a td5/puma 110/130, non abs, short nose axle on to a 90?, I'm asking this as I would like to fit the air locker onto my 90.

thanks

Chris

It should be possible.

You'll need a longer prop shaft though, and this will be non standard. Another option is to use a prop spacer, but I don't recall how different the nose lengths are.

You'll also need to use your original spring 90 seats. 110/130 springs are larger diameter.

prop shaft wouldn't be a problem as I will take it to an engineering shop and will make it to the required length.

I also bought an axle casing with the stub axles and their hubs (110 hd axle short nose).

I would be needing calipers, shafts and a diff.

At first I thought that a 2 pin diff from a p38 or a discovery 2 would fit. wanted to make sure that the pcbs match with axle casing match?

I won't need the diff as such but only its carrier as mentioned above I will be changing to the rd138 locking diff.

With regards to shafts do they need to be specifically for that axle or any 24 spline will do?

thanks

I believe you can fit the P38 diff into the standard casing with some machining. Hybrid from Hell did a thread on it a while back, search for 4 pinion diff.

Quite a LOT of machining ?
