Maverik
Hi folks, Can anyone advise if its possible to remove the thermostat housing (lower part) on a DEFENDER 200tdi without either removing the timing chest or the head?... Cheers Mav
dave88sw
From memory, no. The bolts will not come out past the timing chest. On a 300 housing, the bottom bolts holes are slotted to allow you to just loosen the bottom bolts and lift it out but i think they're just round holes on a 200, once you have it off, it may be worth slotting the holes for future work. Maverik
When I put the engine in the hose stub for the heater water was badly corroded so I fettled it up and managed to get a hose to seal on it... while doing this I noticed that the actual aperture for the water to pass though in the casting of the thermostat housing is extremely small... So.... I've come up with a hair brained idea to cut and drill out the old steel pipe stub and drill out and cut a new thread into the housing and install a new stub (that's slightly bigger)... in the vain hope it might improve water delivery to my cab heater... Looks like I'll be doing this in situ....
western
not had any water flow problem or heater hot air problems with my 200tdi engine since it was fitted in 1994, heater output can be sorted by ensuring the control cables are correctly set up, as in my post 'defender heater checks' in our tech archive index.
