  1. Thanks for the link MARK90, i'm on it.

My dearest wife likes shiney things like a magpie! this would be our family car as i won't let the kids in my new van!!

So i'd like to have it as good as poss for safety/reliabilty etc. Can't see 6K doing that.

As for hassle etc i run my own welding company and have a new larger unit to move into on Friday when i come back from Shropshire. We go a little quite usually around christmas so that would be a good time to hit it.

    bit late in day but:

    cheap 300 tdi 90

  2. i rebuilt my first 3 year ago, almost finished building one now from scratch, amount of hassle ive had with the mssing bits you need to go out and buy new because nobady has them its far easier to rebuild one, i wont build another from scratch anyway despite the sense of achievemnt ill be getting soon!

  3. It's a toss up between whether you are nearest to Halfords or me, I think ;)

the bigger the gap the more tyres they will suit

This will also have to be deeper as bigger diametre tyres are usally wider

which would as you say mean you fall off when using on small tyres

why not make the deck adjustable by means of a plate that goes on hooks similar to what they use on these weight benches for the back support

    might not work

    might work i duno

  4. It's idealy a two man job and takes a bit of practice though a Def screen is easier than many. If you can find someone that's done it to assit that would be good otherwise as Ralph says you are as well paying a few bob to get someone else to fit it.

hardest bit is holding it in place while the strings come out,

lubricant on the inner rubber is ok use a small rope nothing you'd tow out with though remember it only toppull the rubber out of the way and as doing so get around the glass, them little p**#@cks in back of a truck cab are worst to get back in especially the finishing bead to pack it all out

  5. this will p**s you all of then

    if you have

    a) a BT landline,

    B) an orange contract phone

    and

    c) you spend in excess of £35 / month on line rental

You get orange braodband (wanadoo) for FREE all modem etc included just plug in and go

    superb

  6. I get lots of parts from Exeter 4x4, they used to keep my credit card number in their system with my account number so I could ring up order the bits and just give them my account number and the card would be charged. Now they say they are not allowed to keep the card details for any length of time, data protection or some financial reg I dunno, but now I have to give them the card details every time I order. So why can Adrian Flux gat away with keeping and using them?

i thoughit was against Data protection to store card details on a system, for those that pay monthly for items such as insurance with a crediti card i was always under the impression ot was more of a direct debit to you card not actually one of the call centre aliens going on the system and digging out all 16 digits from the card number they wrote down last motnh etc etc etc

I havent been with AF for 3 year now as when i cancelled my insurance on a 9can i say this) shogun due to changing vehicle and companies (they were 2 grand out on the quote)[yes 2,000.00 GBP] it took 6 month for the refubd to get here despite chasing it up every month

  7. different view or scenario:

    one knackered 90 stariaght 2.5 d

needs chassis replacement and engine about to gop boom.

you buy a discovery 200tdi which has good engine

a new galv chasis (off ebay with no reciept)

when doing the work you replace a couplpe of panels,

    the chasis is renewed

the disco engine is dropped in

and while youre at you decide to put the back axle on to discs - using the disco axle.

how does all that stack up

or to throw another spanner in the owrks you lift gearing by shoving the transfer box of your wifes range rover and the back ed of the gear box (youd be very clever to put it on the front!!))

    :o:o

  8. galvanising is only the finish which is applied after all fabrications are done, (a zinc applied coating - dipped) only thing it would think it affects would be if it got scratched - small hurdle i know but once the galvanised coating gets damaged it will allow the elements to get in ie saltwater and spped up corrosion which the galvanising is trying to prevent.

    should be ok though

  9. what sort of led lights do you want, abiot cumbersome but dont they do those 'hamburger' rear lights for commercials in LEDs option wjhich have brake or side at top indicator accross middle and side or brake at bottom??? (round)

  10. if you look in some commercial vehicle magaxines - truck and driovber or commercial motor they do compklete kits for about 250, brand new maybe even fitted - i no youd be able to do that yourself though, if you speak to them though there are options for two cameras (maybe more) so you flick a switch and watch rear winch/front winch or towballs what ever.

  11. any thought of using an 8 legger system the tag on axle on the front works of a ram pushing and pulling front to back, i know theres a little more room on them but surely that would tuck the ram and pipe work up out of the way of any front end damage or knocks?
