  1. Folks, A trip report from our April-May trip to Namibia. It's a bit long but worth it I think Namibia 2011 M Furphy & N Sunassee.pdf or https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=forums&srcid=MTM4NzUzMDUzNDEyMDM5Mzk4MTkBMTEyMjIyMTU1ODUzODUwMjg1MzEBMzE1OTkwNjIuMzgwNS4xMzEwODk1MjM3MDk3LkphdmFNYWlsLmdlby1kaXNjdXNzaW9uLWZvcnVtc0B5cWlwNQE0AQ&pli=1
  2. Do you have some more details on this please?
  3. You could always fit a DeGraff-type silencer where the centre box used to be?
  4. All, please note the following from http://oilspecifications.org/ford.php:
  5. Kris, hasn't the Ford M2C913-B spec been revised from A1/B1 to A5/B5?
  6. Yes, take out the entire thing and replace with a straight-through pipe. You can leave the exit silencer if you like. Without the centre silencer box, your turbo will spool up faster, your EGT will be lowered, and you'll get some extra voomah! Best bang for buck mod on a Td5
  7. what is the 'chalk' method !?
  8. Richard, on my previous 110 and now my 90 I run the following on my BFG ATs: Tar Unladen, F/R: 2.3/2.5 Normal load, F/R: 2.5/2.7 Heavily loaded (with RTT, awning, jerrycan, 2nd spare wheel, loaded fridge, camping gear, etc): 2.5/3.0 Pressure must be set when cold, pref in the morning. I usually set the front first, then the back, and if need it, pump the back such that the 'bulge' on the tyre looks the same all around. When leaving tar for gravel/dirt roads, measure current pressure and then halve. When returning to tar, measure current pressure and double.
  9. I also have the Maintenance check list if anyone is keen.
  10. Friend of mine is fitting a configurable steering damper. Basically a coil over system on the damper and you can then set the resistance of the coil to suit your needs. he needs it because he is fitting 35' tyres to a Puma SVX
  11. Yep, I know it's a latching switch. As for the rest, I'll just nod & smile & pretend I understand Am I correct in assuming that I will need 2 connectors for 2 switches(one for spots, one for rear worklamp)?
  12. Hi all I need a couple of these switches, anyone know where I can find them online? thanks!
  13. Hi all the complete CD for the English workshop manual. PM me.
  14. Just called my LR stealer, and they use Castrol Magnatec 5w50 even though both the manual and LR South Africa specify 5w30. Isn't this technically against the warranty?
  15. Rocky, the best Defender so far. Compared to the Td5, the Puma: is quieter is more comfortable rides better the engine pulls better cruises better the TC is way better the anti-stall is wayyyy better (even in 2nd it's hard to stall it).
  16. Yep, just make sure your wheels are all straight and just to be safe, press the clutch in before dis/engaging the CDL. As long as your speed is < 5kmh, you can do either on the move. A bit tricky to get right though
  17. not really, like Bowie said, it's more the surface that matters. I drove 500kms+ on dirt roads in Namibia with the diff-lock on, doing an average of 80-100kmh last year without any issues.
  18. done, should be accessible now
  19. See this Dual Battery setup, the previous owner of my D2 DIY'ed it. Works quite well, except the main battery must be smaller than the OEM one, and sometimes struggles to start the car due to lower CCA's.
  20. What is the CCA (cold cranking amps)? IIRC, with diesels, the highest cranking power you have, the better!
  21. Still waiting for my friend to send me a pic. However, my radio looks like it's a Visteon, and the former owner of my Disco had this to say about the issue: "I had exactly the same (problem) and the above procedure (Turn the ignition to the on position and switch the radio on. Then leave it for around 45 minutes and it should reset and ask for the pin again) worked for me. Radio said "locked" or something and after about 45 minutes with the ignition on the "ON" position and radio switched on (showing that "locked" message), it reset." So this is getting very confusing now. According to the RAVE manual, the Visteon cannot be unlocked once it's locked itself. But the previous owner did exactly that!?
