  1. I thought it would make total sense to take all panels (including doors, roof etc) off (RRC) and have them resprayed separately till I spoke with a body specialist who told me that this shouldn't be done. His argument was that it is better to allign all panels and then have them painted on the car. What does the collective LR4X4 think about this?
  2. I've been binge watching a number of YT videos on how to put leather or vinyl on panels and, may the Lord help me , dashboards. I might just do a testrun first with some vinyl I still have lying around.
  3. Not a very popular theme it seems I found a fourth option namely covering the panels with leather. The leather I found is a perfect match. Two problems though. The car was never equipped with leather on the door panels and it might be difficult to fix the door lock button frame due to the thickness of the leather. Still pondering.
  4. Absolutely. I’m only at the beginning of my RRC restoration but LR needs to undertake a massive effort to enter the very bottom of the league in which Mercedes and Porsche are playing. I wish them well.
  5. Received a reply today from LR. Basically it boils down to the fact that they do have the intention to re-produce a number of spare parts and that this will be made public via sites like this one, magazines etc. In addition, they also confirmed that they have indeed made a number of parts for the reborn line but that these parts were not intended for mass distribution.
  6. I've sent an enquiry to the address in your link. Let's wait and see....
  7. Anybody know if this intention to re-make a number of spare parts has actually become reality? I really wonder what they did with e.g. the waist seals when they were rebuilding the 'new' Classics they built. Is there an overview available of the parts which they have made or planning to make?
  8. Just what I needed ... a third option
  9. It is indeed the soft dash and a very late one at that. First registration is September 95 (MA662408). It's a one owner car and except for a few small dents in the body it is absolutely impeccable. No rust at all and the interior is new. I consider myself lucky to have found it. saw it on the net, called the owner, took a plane and picked it up. On the way back the alternator stopped working but I had it fixed within 3 hrs at an indy near Montpellier.
  10. The door trim on my 2d RRC isn't in the best of shapes. Not totally shabby but not good enough. I've got a few options to make it all better: Buy the Rimmers panels (North of 300£ including the rear quarter panels) Buy vinyl and re-cover myself. Looking at the way it was done originally, it shouldn't be difficult to reach the same quality level. I would have to cut out the pressed wood panel to replace the original cardboard (or whatever it is). Hand them over to trimmer (locally or NationWide as was suggested). Option 2 is tempting, not sure if I could source the sorrel brown vinyl though. Anybody ever done this? Cheers
  11. I received the above chart by mail and the Saddle Tan (top right corner) is a very good match. I will post the results.
  12. Right, thanks for the tip on the book, I'm ordering it straightaway. Slightly confused about what you mentioned about the diesels not having a spoiler. My 300TDI, on my journey back from Spain moments before the alternator went to heaven, does have a spoiler. would that be put on later?
  13. This is all very helpful. Many thanks. I'd like to get my Colorado Silver look the same as the one below.
  14. Thanks guys. Steve, the company is Belgian but the wood and builders are Polish.
  15. The construction was finished in 2015 and to this day I am very pleased with it. It blends in very well with the rest of the house and it's a fine spot to work on the cars or just sit in and listen to some music. The Porsche is gone after having had it for almost 10 years and has made room for, in the mean time, two RRC's. That's it, now show your barn or shed.
  16. For the roof we have used quite old clay tiles from the Burgundy area. They fit in quite well with the oak and the main house. A few details also from the doors.
  17. The wooden base construction is made 100% out of oak without a single nail being used. The planks used for the outside walls are also oak just as the planks which show on the inside of the roof. It was quite remarkable to watch how it was put together, I'm not sure that there still are many craftsmen around who are able to pull this off. For the record, the construction was assembled at the builder's site, adapted where needed, torn down and built up again at our place.
  18. A couple of folks have commented on my barn and I happen to have documented it fairly well. So here it comes, by popular demand . On the below pictures you can see the concrete slab of 5.5m by 9m. It's 20 cm thick and it was polished straight after pouring. The result is a fairly dark, blue stone like, finish. Exactly what I wanted. The base is made out of bricks similar to the bricks used for the house.
  19. Two models of front spoiler are available for my 89 RRC (SALLHABL8FA38XXX). Any idea which one was offered during which period? The one with the 6 slots must obviously be better for cooling I guess but the other one looks sturdier. I have a/c in the car, which one do I choose? (MXC6829 and MXC6828)
  20. I need to correct myself. My 94 with 4drs is indeed body color (not sure what I was thinking ). It's only the two door which has the black finish.
  21. Can anybody tell if it was an option to have the actual body painted in the same color as the panels? Both my 89 2d and the 94 4d have a black finish while I see some cars with the complete same color inside out. Are all these cars restored and resprayed or did some leave the factory like this? In addition, my mechanic told me that certain markets (Spain, portugal etc) received less protective coating than cars destined for the more Northern countries. Could that be the case?
  22. How about the body? Separated and dipped too?
