Hey George, what kind of restoration level will you be aiming at with the 2 door for interior and body? I'm just about done stripping mine (89 V8 2 door RRC) and I'm still debating what to do with the body shell. Blasting or, less and less likely dipping. Do you have a start date in mind?
I'm typing this while she's trying to get hold of one of my slippers. Some really nice dogs, love the Korthals. Thanks for the compliments on the barn. It was built only a few years ago. I could post all details and pictures if somebody is interested. Do we have a show your barn/shed thread?
Since I started taking apart my 89 RRC I have frequently asked myself what they were thinking at LR. Sometimes I wondered WTF they were smoking too.
I love my RRC but realizing how strangely they have been put together is just weird. When I took the carpets out in the front I was bitching and cursing because I thought the previous owner had botched-up the floor with some poor welding and bizarre cut-outs. That was until I realized they came out of the factory like this
Sometimes it's a curse but most of the times it is a blessing to have my dog around when I'm doing stuff in the shed. She's a gun dog (GSP) and while she never went out hunting she loves to sit in the RR's. She can litterally spend all day in the boot, watching what happens around her.
This is a very well made, pleasant to watch series. I'm so glad to have found it here by coincidence. Binge watched four episodes in a row while I really should be doing other stuff.
Keep this going and I wish you a lot of success. First thing I am going to do is linking it on a few other car sites .
The below pics are from a Classic Car Racing event at Spa Francorchamps in September 2011. Thought them to be a propos.
Fantastic job. A few questions if you don't mind:
Why did you take the front/nose section off when you did the blasting and zinc coating? No issues with warping? Is this better than acid dipping?
How was the build up exactly? Zinc coating + Raptor (?) + Urethane paint (what kind?)
Many thanks.
Thanks Steve. Not sure it would work on hard plastic. In the mean time I have found a color scheme from SEM which they will also send by post. There should be a match in there.
Been busy removing all interior trim from my 89 two door RRC. Some of it is quite faded. Any suggestions as to how I could get these back into shape. Dye? Paint? Snake oil ?
